Air Conditioning Repair, Replacement & Installation
We repair central air conditioning of any brand, and JBD HVAC installs new systems when a repair no longer makes sense. A technician finds the fault first, then prices the repair against replacement so you can choose with both numbers in front of you.
Norwood Center is anchored by the Memorial Municipal Building on Washington Street, finished in 1927 with a 170-foot tower. For an older home in or near the center of town, the first question is often whether ductless or a small-duct system fits better than a standard install.
Air Duct Repair, Sealing & Replacement
Air duct work is part of what we do: inspection, sealing, repair, and full replacement, plus new runs for additions. We look for torn seams, disconnected sections, and crushed trunk lines, then fix the ones we find so the air you pay to condition reaches the room.
Ezra Morse set up a sawmill in what is now South Norwood back in 1678, and the area has been built up ever since. In a house that has been added onto more than once, a duct inspection is often the quickest way to learn why one room never matches the others.
Boiler & Steam Boiler Repair, Replacement & Maintenance
We service and repair hot-water and steam boilers, replace them when they are past saving, and maintain them so they last. When a boiler stops heating, leaks, or makes noise it never used to, we diagnose it and give you repair and replacement costs side by side.
Norwood became its own town in 1872, and the Oak View Mansion, built between 1868 and 1870, is among the town's best-known houses from that period. If your home is that old and still heats with radiators, a boiler check in the fall is easier to schedule than a no-heat call in January.
Ductless Mini-Split Installation & Repair
Certified Ductless Pro status means we handle ductless systems from first install through later repairs and upkeep, heating and cooling a single room or zone. Each indoor head connects to an outdoor unit through a narrow refrigerant line, so nothing needs to be cut into walls for ductwork.
If summer in your Norwood house means window units in the bedrooms, ductless is the usual way to replace them. The units come out of the windows, each room gets a thermostat of its own, and the same equipment heats in the shoulder seasons.
Furnace Repair, Installation & Tune-Ups
Gas furnaces are a core part of our work: repair, replacement, new installs, and pre-season tune-ups. If a furnace short-cycles, blows cold air, or will not start, we trace the cause and tell you what a repair costs against what a new unit costs.
With three MBTA commuter rail stops in town, Norwood Depot, Norwood Central, and Windsor Gardens, a no-heat morning can unravel a whole household's schedule. Catching a worn igniter or a dirty burner on a fall visit beats finding out on a cold weekday.
Heat Pump Installation, Dual-Fuel Systems & Replacement
Heat pump work here covers installation, replacement, repair, and upkeep of heat pumps, including dual-fuel systems that team one with the furnace already in your home. If your home already has central AC, swapping it for a heat pump is often the simplest way in: the outdoor unit does the cooling in summer and the heating in winter.
The bigger decision is whole-home versus partial-home, since Mass Save pays them differently and the calendar matters this year. The rebate numbers and the January 1, 2027 change are in the FAQ below.
HVAC Maintenance Plans & Seasonal Tune-Ups
Our maintenance plan puts gas furnaces, central air conditioners, heat pumps, and mini splits on a recurring inspection schedule, and each visit by a NATE-certified technician covers airflow, refrigerant levels, electrical connections, and safety controls. Members also get priority repair scheduling, discounted labor and parts on repairs, and no warranty processing fee.
Leaf season clogs outdoor units in fall, and pollen coats them by spring, so the two visits a year are well timed. We suggest a furnace check in early fall and an AC check in spring, before the weather puts the equipment to the test.
Indoor Air Quality Solutions & Humidity Control
We install indoor air quality equipment for filtration, humidity control, and ventilation, picked to match what bothers your household, whether that is dust, allergens, odors, or air that feels clammy. Our Indoor Air Quality Expert credential comes with a straight answer about which option suits your home and which one is not worth buying.
The Neponset River runs through Norwood, so a damp basement in July is a fair thing to ask about. A whole-home dehumidifier tied into the system is the usual answer when a basement stays humid even with the AC running.
Zone Control Systems for Multi-Level Homes
Zoning is something we install, repair, and tune: zone control systems use dampers in the ductwork and separate thermostats so floors or wings of a home can hold different temperatures. A zoning setup that has stopped responding is on our list too.
A second floor that runs hotter than the first is the classic reason to ask about zoning, especially in a house that has had an addition. It is worth raising before anyone proposes a second system.
Why Norwood Homeowners Choose JBD HVAC
Norwood homes get the full range from us, from AC repair and boiler service to heat pump installs and maintenance plans, with options and costs explained before work begins. We work out of Franklin, on Upper Union Street, and Norwood sits within our service area.
A Norfolk homeowner wrote that a routine spring maintenance visit turned up a leak in their 25-year-old AC, that replacement made more sense than repair, and that the install was finished in a single day. They also said JBD was the most straightforward about their options and that they never felt pressured.
On the Carrier side, JBD is a Factory Authorized Dealer and a President's Award winner for five straight years, 2022 through 2026. Indoor Air Quality Expert and Puron Advance Trained credentials round that out, which matters when new equipment goes into your home.
Norwood Heating, Cooling & Heat Pump Questions, Answered
We repair, install, and maintain AC, heat pumps, boilers, and ductless systems. These answers cover common decisions for Norwood homes.
My Norwood AC is about 25 years old and just developed a leak. Should I repair it or replace it?
On a unit that old, replacement is often the better call, but the numbers decide it. We find where the leak is, quote the repair, and quote a replacement so you can compare them. A repair that lasts one more season costs more in the long run than a system you will not touch again for years. One of our customers described exactly this situation, and replacing the unit made more sense to them than repairing it.
Can I replace my central AC with a heat pump?
Often yes. A heat pump is an AC that can also run in reverse for heating, so a home with central air and working ducts is a natural candidate. We check the ductwork, the air handler, and your electrical panel first. Whether you keep your furnace or boiler as backup or retire it is a separate decision, and we walk you through both.
Is a heat pump cheaper to run than my boiler?
It depends on what fuel your boiler burns, how well the house is sealed, and how the heat pump is set up. A heat pump moves heat rather than making it, so it can use less energy than a boiler. Prices for oil, gas, and electricity change, so we do not promise a number. A dual-fuel setup pairs a heat pump with your existing boiler or furnace, and a thermostat setting decides which one runs.
Will a heat pump keep my Norwood home warm in a New England winter?
Yes, if it is the right kind and sized correctly. Cold-climate models are built to keep heating when it is freezing outside, and Mass Save requires ENERGY STAR Cold Climate certification for its heat pump rebates. If you want extra assurance on the coldest nights, a dual-fuel setup lets your furnace or boiler take over. A house that is still cold with the heat pump running deserves a service call, since a dirty filter, blocked outdoor unit, or undersized system can cause it.
What Mass Save rebates and financing apply to a heat pump in Norwood, and when does the rebate change?
Mass Save's 2026 whole-home heat pump rebate pays $2,650 per ton, up to $8,500, for equipment installed this year, and the paperwork is due February 28, 2027. Installs on or after January 1, 2027 fall under a lower schedule of $2,350 per ton, capped at $7,500. The partial-home rebate, for homes that keep their current heating, pays $1,125 per ton up to $8,500 in 2026. To get the whole-home tier, the heat pump must be the home's sole heating and cooling source, the house must meet Mass Save's weatherization requirement, and the equipment must be ENERGY STAR Cold Climate certified and listed as a qualified product. Qualifying upgrades can also be financed through the Mass Save HEAT Loan, which carries 0% interest on up to $25,000. Terms shift from year to year, so we check your eligibility before quoting and file the rebate paperwork and the HEAT Loan application for you.
Is zone control worth adding to a two-story Norwood home?
If the upstairs runs hotter in summer or colder in winter than the downstairs and you already have ductwork, zoning is usually the more targeted fix. Dampers in the ducts send air where it is needed, and separate thermostats let each floor hold its own setting. It works best when the equipment is sized for the whole house, which we check during a visit.

Customer Reviews

During a routine spring maintenance visit, we discovered a leak in the AC unit serving our upper floor. Since the unit was 25 years old, replacing it made more sense than repairing it. We got several quotes, and JBD stood out. Not only were they the most competitively priced, but they were also the most straightforward in explaining our options. We never felt pressured or oversold. Installation day went smoothly from start to finish. Jim and his crew were courteous, knowledgeable, articulate, and easy to work with. They took careful precautions to protect our home throughout the process, and Jim was patient and happy to answer questions as the work progressed. He even took the time to clear a clogged drain on our downstairs condenser that was leaking on the basement floor, a nice bonus that solved an annoying problem for us! The job was completed in a single day, and we now have a quiet, efficient system. From the first phone call to the final handshake, we were very happy with our experience with JBD Air Conditioning & Heating Services and would recommend them without hesitation.

JBD is wonderful to work with. Always professional and responsive. We had a late day emergency and Jim was done for the day on his way home, but he detoured over to our house and made a potentially big problem really small. This was late on a Friday. JBD cares about their customers and provide quality, reliable, outstanding service at a fair price. What more can you ask for?

We recently had a new heating system installed and chose to add central A/C. We chose JBD after Jim had come to our home to look at the job. He was very thorough, explained things very well in a way we could understand, and answered our questions. He was polite and friendly and made us feel very comfortable about our decision to add A/C-a considerable expense. We chose JDB after soliciting several estimates from other companies. JBD's pricing was very reasonable and, having read the reviews for the brand he proposed and we chose, I knew we were making a good decision. The work was scheduled to take place over 2 days, 7/1 and 7/2. We were informed and confirmed by by the office so we knew the project date was right on target. Jim and his assistant, Dominic, arrived early and worked very hard for 2, long days! They were meticulous in preparing and protecting the floors and carpeted staircase with quilted fabric dropcloths--the kind typically used by moving companies to protect furniture. This was important to us as the basement floor is new and in pristine condition. They were meticulous at cleaning up when the job was completed. Upon completion, Jim explained and showed us the various parts of the new system, and also showed us how to operate the new thermostat (the one he had recommended we replace our previous one with and we're glad we took his advice). We can't say enough about Jim, Shawna (office manager), and Dominic! All of them were wonderful to deal with; friendly, helpful, understanding, patient, professional and meticulous! We would hire them again and highly recommend them to anyone in need of their services. We are thoroughly enjoying the comfort of central air! Gold stars for all of you! Thank you JBD!

I recently had the pleasure of working with JBD Air Conditioning & Heating Services, Inc to install two heat pump systems in my home. From start to finish, the entire experience was a demonstration of honesty, integrity, and outstanding attention to detail. Jim took the time to thoroughly explain the options available and gave me a clear and honest breakdown of costs. I never felt pressured into making decisions, and they ensured I understood every step of the process. Shawna helped guide me through the mass save heat loan and took care of all the rebates! It’s rare to find a company that truly values trust as much as they do, and it made all the difference. Their attention to detail was evident in every aspect of the installation. Jim and Dominic were on site for three days straight and were meticulous in their work. They even adjusted the ducts, registers, and return for the master bedroom which previously had air flow issues. Jim went out of his way to shift the install date to prevent the house from losing A/C on the recent 100F day. The heat pumps are running beautifully and we're already seeing a substantial improvement in the master. If you're looking for a company that genuinely cares about delivering high-quality work while maintaining the highest standards of honesty and professionalism, look no further than JBD. They’ve earned my trust, and I’ll be recommending them to everyone I know.
