Air Conditioning Installation, Repair & Replacement

Our technicians install, replace, repair, and maintain air conditioning systems from the manufacturers we carry. If your unit has failed at the end of its service life, we'll walk you through energy-efficient replacement options. If it's still running but you're due for an upgrade, we'll help you compare makes and models against your home's actual cooling needs.

Franklin's village core around the Town Common dates to the 1780s, and many of the Federal and Greek Revival-style homes that line it were built long before central ductwork was standard. That history matters for cooling: a lot of these homes need a retrofit approach, like high-velocity or ductless systems, rather than a straightforward central-air swap, and it's worth having that conversation before you get a quote.

Air Duct Installation, Sealing & Replacement

Whether you're finishing new construction or dealing with ductwork that's reached the end of its life, our team handles air ducts installation, sealing, and replacement. Leaky or torn ducts let conditioned air escape before it ever reaches your rooms, driving up your bills without you noticing.

In established Franklin neighborhoods like Union Street and Forge Hill, homes tend to be older and well-built, which also means original ductwork is more likely to be reaching the point where seams have loosened and insulation has broken down. A duct inspection is a quick way to find out if that's part of why a room runs hot or cold.

Boiler Repair, Replacement & Maintenance

Our boilers services cover inspection, repair, replacement, and preventative maintenance. If something's off with your boiler, we'd rather catch it on an inspection than have you find out the hard way in January.

Downtown Franklin's historic core, recognized as Massachusetts's 46th Cultural District in 2019, is full of homes built well before forced-air heat was common, and a good number of them still run on their original hydronic or boiler systems. Keeping an older boiler properly maintained is usually the more cost-effective path than a premature replacement.

Ductless Mini-Split Installation & Service

As a Carrier Certified Ductless Pro, our team installs, replaces, repairs, and maintains ductless systems for homes that need zone-by-zone comfort without new ductwork.

Franklin's Horace Mann neighborhood is known for its charming older homes and tree-lined streets, exactly the kind of housing stock where ductless makes the most sense, since it delivers heating and cooling room by room without opening up walls or ceilings for ducts.

Furnace Installation, Repair & Replacement

Don't wait for a mid-winter breakdown. Our furnaces services cover installation, replacement, repair, and maintenance, so your system is ready before the temperature drops.

Family neighborhoods like Highfields, built out with more standard 20th-century forced-air construction, are a good match for straightforward furnace service and replacement, with no unusual retrofit work required, just making sure the unit and ductwork are sized and maintained correctly.

Heat Pump Installation & Cold-Climate Heating

A heat pumps system gives you efficient heating and cooling from one piece of equipment, cutting your energy use compared to running separate systems. We handle installation, replacement, repair, and maintenance.

Franklin is a commuter town with two stops on the MBTA Franklin Line and direct access to Route 495, and a lot of homeowners here are electrifying as they upgrade. That timing works in your favor: Mass Save's 2026 whole-home heat pump rebate runs up to $8,500, and equipment has to use an A2L refrigerant like R-454B to qualify, which is exactly what our Puron Advance Trained technicians are set up to install.

HVAC Maintenance Plans

Regular maintenance keeps your system running efficiently year-round and helps you avoid breakdowns during the coldest and hottest stretches of the year.

Neighborhoods like Glen Meadow, which borders Franklin State Forest, come with a lot of tree cover and walking trails. That's nice for residents, but it also means more seasonal pollen and leaf debris finding its way into outdoor units and air intakes. A maintenance plan catches that before it becomes an airflow or efficiency problem.

Indoor Air Quality Solutions

We offer a full range of indoor air quality products and services to help you breathe easier at home.

Downtown Franklin's walkable core, anchored by Dean College, mixes older homes converted into multi-unit housing with newer downtown development. Older converted buildings especially tend to have tighter, less consistent building envelopes, which makes ventilation and humidity control more important, not less.

Zone Control Systems

A zone control systems setup lets you heat and cool different areas of your home independently, so you're not paying to condition rooms nobody's using.

Franklin covers just over 27 square miles, from historic in-town homes to newer subdivisions further out, and additions and multi-level layouts are common across both. Zone control is often the fix for a house where one part never seems to match the thermostat setting for the rest.

Why Franklin Homeowners Choose JBD HVAC

When you call JBD HVAC, you're calling Jim directly, not a dispatcher reading off a script. He leads every job himself, Shawna will walk you through scheduling and your Mass Save rebate paperwork, and Dominic's usually right there with Jim getting the work done. We've won Carrier's President's Award five years running, and on top of our Factory Authorized Dealer status, our team is certified as an Indoor Air Quality Expert and Puron Advance Trained, so you're getting technicians who actually know the newest equipment, not just a badge on a website. We're your neighbors here in Franklin, based right on Upper Union Street.

Franklin, MA HVAC Repair & Installation Questions, Answered

My home is one of the older colonials near the Red Brick School in Franklin Center. Is it worth repairing an original boiler, or should I replace it?

It depends on the boiler's age and repair history more than the home's age. A well-maintained boiler in an older home can often be kept running efficiently for years with the right repairs. If you're facing a major component failure, though, our team will walk you through the numbers so you can compare the repair cost against a replacement.

My AC is running, but my Franklin home still feels warm upstairs. What's going on?

This is one of the most common calls we get, and it's usually airflow, not the compressor. Undersized or leaky ductwork, a dirty filter restricting flow, or a system that was never quite sized for a two-story layout can all cause upstairs rooms to lag behind the rest of the house. A technician can usually diagnose it on one visit.

How do I know if I should repair or replace my furnace before winter?

A widely used industry guideline is the 50% rule: if a single repair would cost more than about half the price of a new system, replacement is usually the better long-term value, especially on a furnace nearing 15-20 years old. We'll give you real numbers for both options rather than pushing you toward either one.

Is a ductless mini-split a realistic option for an older Franklin home without existing ductwork?

Yes. That's exactly the situation ductless was designed for. Instead of opening up walls or ceilings to run new ducts, a ductless system uses a small line set that can typically be routed through an exterior wall, giving you zone-by-zone heating and cooling without a major renovation.

What Mass Save rebates are available for a heat pump installation in Franklin in 2026?

As of 2026, Mass Save's whole-home heat pump rebate runs up to $8,500 (at $2,650 per ton), with a separate partial-home tier available at a lower rate. Qualifying equipment now has to use an A2L refrigerant such as R-454B rather than older R-410A systems. Our office handles the rebate paperwork and Mass Save HEAT Loan application as part of the install process.

Why does my Franklin home feel humid all summer even though the AC is running?

An AC system is built to cool air, not necessarily to dehumidify it on its own, especially if it's oversized for the space or short-cycling. A whole-home dehumidifier or a properly sized system can address the humidity directly instead of just running the AC longer and hoping it helps.

Is zone control worth adding to a multi-level Franklin home?

If you've got rooms or floors that never match the thermostat setting for the rest of the house (a common issue in homes with additions or finished upper floors), zone control is usually a more targeted fix than adjusting the whole system's settings and hoping for the best.

Customer Reviews

During a routine spring maintenance visit, we discovered a leak in the AC unit serving our upper floor. Since the unit was 25 years old, replacing it made more sense than repairing it. We got several quotes, and JBD stood out. Not only were they the most competitively priced, but they were also the most straightforward in explaining our options. We never felt pressured or oversold. Installation day went smoothly from start to finish. Jim and his crew were courteous, knowledgeable, articulate, and easy to work with. They took careful precautions to protect our home throughout the process, and Jim was patient and happy to answer questions as the work progressed. He even took the time to clear a clogged drain on our downstairs condenser that was leaking on the basement floor, a nice bonus that solved an annoying problem for us! The job was completed in a single day, and we now have a quiet, efficient system. From the first phone call to the final handshake, we were very happy with our experience with JBD Air Conditioning & Heating Services and would recommend them without hesitation.

JBD is wonderful to work with. Always professional and responsive. We had a late day emergency and Jim was done for the day on his way home, but he detoured over to our house and made a potentially big problem really small. This was late on a Friday. JBD cares about their customers and provide quality, reliable, outstanding service at a fair price. What more can you ask for?

We recently had a new heating system installed and chose to add central A/C. We chose JBD after Jim had come to our home to look at the job. He was very thorough, explained things very well in a way we could understand, and answered our questions. He was polite and friendly and made us feel very comfortable about our decision to add A/C-a considerable expense. We chose JDB after soliciting several estimates from other companies. JBD's pricing was very reasonable and, having read the reviews for the brand he proposed and we chose, I knew we were making a good decision. The work was scheduled to take place over 2 days, 7/1 and 7/2. We were informed and confirmed by by the office so we knew the project date was right on target. Jim and his assistant, Dominic, arrived early and worked very hard for 2, long days! They were meticulous in preparing and protecting the floors and carpeted staircase with quilted fabric dropcloths--the kind typically used by moving companies to protect furniture. This was important to us as the basement floor is new and in pristine condition. They were meticulous at cleaning up when the job was completed. Upon completion, Jim explained and showed us the various parts of the new system, and also showed us how to operate the new thermostat (the one he had recommended we replace our previous one with and we're glad we took his advice). We can't say enough about Jim, Shawna (office manager), and Dominic! All of them were wonderful to deal with; friendly, helpful, understanding, patient, professional and meticulous! We would hire them again and highly recommend them to anyone in need of their services. We are thoroughly enjoying the comfort of central air! Gold stars for all of you! Thank you JBD!

I recently had the pleasure of working with JBD Air Conditioning & Heating Services, Inc to install two heat pump systems in my home. From start to finish, the entire experience was a demonstration of honesty, integrity, and outstanding attention to detail. Jim took the time to thoroughly explain the options available and gave me a clear and honest breakdown of costs. I never felt pressured into making decisions, and they ensured I understood every step of the process. Shawna helped guide me through the mass save heat loan and took care of all the rebates! It’s rare to find a company that truly values trust as much as they do, and it made all the difference. Their attention to detail was evident in every aspect of the installation. Jim and Dominic were on site for three days straight and were meticulous in their work. They even adjusted the ducts, registers, and return for the master bedroom which previously had air flow issues. Jim went out of his way to shift the install date to prevent the house from losing A/C on the recent 100F day. The heat pumps are running beautifully and we're already seeing a substantial improvement in the master. If you're looking for a company that genuinely cares about delivering high-quality work while maintaining the highest standards of honesty and professionalism, look no further than JBD. They’ve earned my trust, and I’ll be recommending them to everyone I know.
